This project is to promote the well-being of an orphanage located in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo as well as the districts surrounding it. The project is to increase agricultural productivity of the orphanage in ways that are sustainable and environmentally friendly.
The project will allow the orphanage to feed the orphans and sell the surplus to the population living in the area at a reasonable price. The work will also increase the livelihood security of the caregivers of orphans and vulnerable children.
The goal of the project is to start income generating activities through initiating agricultural farming for an orphanage in Kinshasa that is going through hardship. In the farm, we will grow different types of vegetables and start a poultry project. The project will provide vocational skills to 50 youths who will be working alongside an agricultural officer to gain functional skills in farming. This will establish fruitful relationship and collaboration with the population living in the surroundings. The majority of the inhabitants of this area live below the poverty line – They live on less than one US dollar a day.
One of the specific and measurable results that we are seeking to achieve with this effort is agricultural operations that are economically profitable and sustainable and environmentally friendly. The agriculture will generate not only income for the orphanage in order for caregivers to be able to take proper and better care of the orphans, but also the livelihood security for the population living in the same district as the orphanage.
